Glacier Bay Excursions — Beyond the Ship's Deck
Glacier Bay is a scenic cruising day — your ship spends 8–10 hours inside Glacier Bay National Park, cruising past 11 tidewater glaciers, including the towering Margerie Glacier. National Park Service rangers board the ship to provide narration and presentations throughout the day.
While most passengers watch from the ship's decks (which is spectacular), some cruise lines offer catamaran excursions that get you much closer to the glacier faces on a smaller vessel. Expedition cruises with UnCruise, Lindblad, and Alaskan Dream offer kayaking among the icebergs — an experience you simply can't get from a large ship.
Key tip: The free Ranger Program is the best "excursion" in Glacier Bay. Rangers provide expert narration, Junior Ranger badges for kids, and interpretation you won't get anywhere else.
